Rosemarie and bo close your eyes-hicksville express

Twenty-five rare goodies from the archives of Jameco, Black Hawk, Black Falcon, Sirco, and other small labels. Titled after Magic Touch's Step into My World, the CD features clandestine soul from Rosemarie (noted songwriter Rose Marie McCoy) and Bo, Linwood Taylor, Brenda Parker, the Peachettes, the Sabers (featuring Rosemarie and Bill Ivey), the Original Spacemen, Roy C, and the Weeknights. Plus, duets from Willie Watson and Veronica Seabrook, and Diana Tyler (lead singer of Magic Touch) and Nat Brown. The Peachettes accompanies Linwood Taylor on two songs. But the essentials are Magic Touch's cuts, which includes the original studio and a heavy live version of "Step Into My World," the Group Four's "I'm Not the One (Who Made Your Heart Die)," Diana Tylers & Nat Brown's ultra-soulful "Most of All," Rosemarie & Bo's "Close Your Eyes," and Roy C's "Shotgun Wedding." Watson and Seabrook's funky dancer "Donkey and the Goat" deserved more exposure; ditto for Brenda Parker's "Help Me Find Mr. Good Man." The Peachettes does the definitive version of Kathy Young's "A Thousand Stars." '60s/'70s soul music lovers will feel these cuts immediately, even though most probably never heard them before. Accumulating the original singles is a pain, and who -- except collectors -- want them anyway when you have them crisp, clear, and digitally remastered on a bright, shiny, new CD?

Sharon Rogers, Nancy Jo Hooper, Nancy Scott, Ashlyn Martin, Terri Kimball, Lori Winston, Melba Ogle, China Lee, Astrid Schulz, Rosemarie Hillcrest, Kai Brendlinger and Jo Collins, January 1965
